Grouse Mountain Hike
Dam Mountain and Thunderbird Ridge
Length: 7.2 km
Elevation Gain: 380 m
Difficulty Level: Easy
Grouse Mountain is famous for its Grouse Grind in the summer. It’s a steady incline of almost 800 meters elevation gain in less then 2 KM (one way, the company that operates activities around Grouse forces you to take the tram coming down).
However, in Winter, the scenery is totally different. Enjoy the photos below from my hike to Dam Mountain and then to Thunderbird Ridge.
Grouse Grind
Length: 2.7 km
Elevation Gain: 784 m
Difficulty Level: Intermediate
Grouse grind is an interesting trail (if you can call it a trail). It’s ascending nonstop starting at the trail head, which shares the same parking lots as the grouse tram. You are walking on mostly stairs. Talking about tram, if you want to come down from Grouse Mountain, you can either take the tram, or take other trails down (but not coming down from the grouse grind). Grouse grind is one way hike, going up only.
For exercise purpose, grouse grind is great. However the reward to effort ratio is very low. There are more beautiful scenario locally with less effort than grouse grind.
